Is Google Selling LEGO Sets Or Just Playing With Our Bricks?

Google is selling the Chrome Dino Brick Set through its official merchandise store. No, it’s not official LEGO®, but sure costs like one, to get you need to give away “only” 40 USD (around 38 EUR, 61 AUD, 33 GBP, 284 DKK, 432 SEK, 165 PLN, and 227 BRL). That’s quite a big price for turning internet downtime into build-time. Inside the box hides 233 pieces ready to create the legendary pixel dinosaur in three-dimensional form.

The construction keeps things true to the game: a single white eye, a bright green body, a clear stand, but no cactus. The bricks however, look to small, but similar to an alternative brand with mini brick size.

Limited Edition Dino Hunt

Now only 600 of these Dinos exist in the store. At last count, around 496 were still roaming captive. That scarcity gives the hunt some extra thrill. Google’s merch store restocks on its own mysterious schedule, so once these Dinos vanish, they might stay extinct.

This shop also hides another quirky brick products like a Google Cloud logo for the same price.

A Dino Dream That Nearly Became LEGO®

The Chrome Dino once dreamed of being an official LEGO® set. Twice, in fact! joffre_bricks submitted a version to LEGO Ideas back in 2019 and another project in 2023 from Brick Dangerous. The second project, “Google Chrome T-Rex Runner” archive the 10.000 and moved to be reviewed by LEGO. So it could become a REAL LEGO set depending with the Google negotiation. 

When The Internet Stops The Building Starts

There’s a satisfying irony here. The Chrome Dino only appears when your connection fails. This new brick Dino exists to celebrate that failure. One version runs endlessly to kill time. The other stands proudly to fill it. 

So next time your connection crashes, don’t groan. Reach for your box of bricks, build your green dino, and laugh at the irony. The very creature that once reminded you of being offline now celebrates it. Every pause becomes a chance to create.
