LEGO® NASA Mars Rover Perseverance Review: A Tiny but Mighty Polybag Set

I’m not usually a fan of small LEGO® polybag sets, but when I saw the 42158 NASA Mars Rover Perseverance, I had to order it. Since it wasn’t available in Portugal at the time, I got it from a store in Germany. This tiny 83-piece set surprised me with how well it captures the essence of the real Mars Rover.

A Faithful Replica of the Perseverance Rover

The NASA Mars Rover Perseverance, affectionately called "Percy," is a planetary rover launched by NASA on July 30, 2020. Its mission is to study astrobiology, geology, and the history of Mars, including whether the planet was once habitable. The LEGO® version does an impressive job of replicating its key features, especially considering its size.

One standout detail is the suspension system, which is surprisingly well-designed and functional for such a small model. The drill arm, another iconic feature of the real rover, is also well-represented. While the movement is mostly manual, a simple side function allows the arm to extend, mimicking the rover’s ability to drill into the Martian surface and collect samples.

Value for Money

The official price for this polybag set is €3.99, though it can sometimes be found for slightly more depending on availability. I paid a bit extra, but it was worth it, this LEGO® set delivers a lot of detail and playability for its size.
