LEGO has recently announced the launch of a new set created by two LEGO fan friends, Josh and Jacob, which features the globally renowned K-pop group BTS against the backdrop of their hit single “Dynamite”. The set is called BTS Dynamite 21339 and includes 749 pieces and the seven members of the group as minifigures: RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook. The set is priced at €99.99 and will be available for purchase on the 1st of March.
BTS is a K-pop group that has amassed an enormous following worldwide. Their hit single “Dynamite” was released in August 2020 and reached over 100 million views in less than a day. It was also the group’s first single to reach the top of the charts in the US, and has since garnered over a billion views on YouTube. The set features the members of the group in their iconic outfits from the music video.
The creators of the set, Josh and Jacob, combined their love for LEGO and BTS to bring this new set to life. Jacob, a huge BTS fan, provided the necessary details about the group and what needed to be included in the set. Josh, on the other hand, did the construction and design work. The two worked together to create the set and ensure that it accurately captured the essence of the music video. The set was met with great enthusiasm online, and it quickly went viral overnight.
Federico Begher, the Head of Product for the LEGO Group, commented on the development of the set, saying that when they saw Josh and Jacob’s design, they knew it was going to be a hit. The set highlights creativity, passion, and most importantly, fun, and he can’t wait to see fans build and show off this new set.
This new set is an exciting development for fans of the band and K-pop enthusiasts. However, left LEGO fans disappointed and frustrated on the direction of the LEGO Ideas selection process.
Many AFOL’s pointed out that LEGO is more interested in creating social network buzz with this release in the Asian markets, where they are heavily investing, and forget about what LEGO Ideas is really about, innovation, new and original creations. To give the opportunity to the AFOL community to build some out of the box sets.
The set is basic, boring, lacking originality in comparison to the other sets reviewed and rejected by the LEGO Ideas team as listed below:
However, it is interesting to see LEGO exploring these types of themes and, if successful, we may receive more sets dedicated to bands and musical artists on the LEGO Ideas platform. But in my opinion, Ideas platform is for much more than basic sets.
But what do you think? Will you buy this set?
