LEGO® Magic Starts at the Airport: Billund’s New Brick Welcome

LEGO® Magic Starts at the Airport: Billund’s New Brick Welcome

If you’ve ever flown into Billund Airport, you know the drill: step off the plane, grab your luggage, and—if you’re lucky—head straight to LEGO® House. But now, the LEGO® experience begins the moment you land. LEGO® House and Billund Airport have teamed up to install a permanent LEGO® display, ensuring travelers get a taste of LEGO® magic before they even leave the terminal.

Why Billund Airport?

Billund isn’t just any airport. It’s the gateway to the home of the LEGO® brick, and with direct flights to over 120 destinations, it welcomes nearly 4 million passengers a year. A third of those travelers are international visitors, many of whom come specifically for LEGO® attractions. So, what better way to greet them than with a LEGO® masterpiece?

Kathrine Kirk Muff, CEO of LEGO® House, puts it simply: “Billund is the ultimate LEGO® destination. In 2024 alone, we’ve welcomed guests from over 100 countries. This installation gives travelers an instant sense of the LEGO® universe as soon as they arrive. After all, the magic is just outside the airport doors.”

What’s on Display?

The installation features three iconic LEGO® sculptures, each a nod to the wonders of LEGO® House:

  • Tree of Creativity: A smaller but still impressive version of the giant tree inside LEGO® House, built from 120,046 bricks, standing 2.5 meters tall, and weighing 270 kg. It took 770 hours to build, because greatness doesn’t happen overnight.
  • Welcoming Girl: Standing 1.7 meters tall, this cheerful figure greets travelers in the arrival hall, just like the Play Agents at LEGO® House. She’s made of 17,225 bricks and took 72 hours to assemble.
  • Dinosaur: A relative of the dinosaurs in LEGO® House’s Masterpiece Gallery, this 1.75-meter-tall creature is built from 40,875 bricks and weighs 90 kg.

Jesper Klausholm, Chief Marketing Officer at Billund Airport, adds: “As the international airport of West Denmark, we want to showcase what makes Billund special. LEGO® House is a one-of-a-kind attraction, and this installation is our way of inviting travelers to explore the city—and the LEGO® brick’s magic—from the moment they land.”

A Seamless Transition from Airport to Adventure

The airport recently redesigned its arrival area to give visitors an immediate sense of place. Now, with these LEGO® sculptures, the transition from travel to LEGO® adventure is smoother than ever. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a returning fan, the message is clear: you’re in the right place for bricks, creativity, and fun.

Built for Fans, Right from the Start

This collaboration is more than just decoration. It’s a reminder that in Billund, the LEGO® experience doesn’t wait. It starts at the baggage carousel, continues through the airport, and follows you all the way to LEGO® House, because in this town, everything is built for fans.

Next time you fly into Billund, keep an eye out for the Tree of Creativity, the Welcoming Girl, and the Dinosaur. And if you’re not already planning a visit to LEGO® House, well, consider this your sign.
