A simple childhood memory inspired a striking LEGO creation. GenericBrix, a LEGO fan and member of the 10K Club, remembered a friend’s backyard koi pond. The scene was full of life, fish gliding under lily pads, frogs resting on rocks and dragonflies skimming the water. That memory became the foundation for a detailed LEGO wall canvas called The Life of Koi.

From Memory to Model
GenericBrix aimed to do more than build a pond. The goal was to recreate the calm and beauty of the original scene. To achieve this, the builder mixed 2D and 3D techniques. The design creates depth and makes the water appear alive. At first, transparent pieces seemed ideal for showing water movement. However, these didn’t work as planned. Colored pieces took their place and added a fresh, vibrant look.

The final model includes foliage, frogs and dragonflies. Each detail reflects the original memory and shows how LEGO can turn personal moments into physical art. The build measures 52 by 84 by 8 studs and uses 2,000 pieces. It can hang on a wall or sit on a table, making it a flexible display for any room.

A Project for the LEGO Community
The Life of Koi has already caught the attention of LEGO fans. Over 200 comments show strong support for the idea. To become an official LEGO set, the project needs 10,000 votes on LEGO Ideas.

GenericBrix invites everyone to help make this dream a reality. Each vote brings the project closer to production. Supporters can visit the LEGO Ideas page and cast their vote for The Life of Koi. With enough backing, this peaceful scene could soon appear on shelves worldwide.

This project proves that the best LEGO builds start with a simple idea, and a shared love for creativity.
