There are few toys that define childhood like LEGO® bricks and Monopoly boards. You either built cities or bought them. Now fan, Diogo Machado, is trying to make both happen at once with his LEGO® Monopoly project on LEGO® Ideas. It’s sitting at around 2,200 votes, but it needs 10,000 to land on LEGO®’s review table.

It’s a simple question: how has this crossover not happened yet? LEGO® has already turned everything from The Office (21336) to Pac-Man (10323) into beautiful buildable tributes. Meanwhile, Monopoly has editions for everything from Disney to Star Wars. The mash-up feels overdue, and Machado’s concept nails the nostalgia.
Building Capitalism, Brick by Brick
The project includes all the Monopoly staples but rebuilt in LEGO® style. There are seven collectible tokens: a dog, car, hat, boat, guitar, boots, and a dinosaur, all recreated as micro-builds. The board is designed with foldable panels that can store the cards and accessories inside. No more lost pieces rolling under the couch.

Machado’s version swaps Monopoly’s streets for LEGO® City landmarks, turning “Boardwalk” into something more like “Assembly Square.” The Chance and Community Chest cards get a playful twist too, referencing LEGO® sets, mini-figures, and classic mishaps like stepping on a brick barefoot. The goal is not just to recreate Monopoly, it’s to make it feel like it was always meant to exist in the LEGO® universe.
The Mr. Monopoly We Deserve
Perhaps the most charming detail is the custom Mr. Monopoly minifigure, modeled and rendered by Machado himself. It’s the first time the iconic top hat tycoon is reimagined as an official LEGO® figure.

A Community Investment
Machado’s honesty gives the project heart. He admits he doesn’t have professional rendering tools, but his enthusiasm more than compensates. He modeled everything himself, from the accessories holder to the folded board design.

If this project hits 10,000 votes, LEGO® will officially review it. That could lead to one of the most iconic crossovers in toy history, a collaboration between two giants of play that taught us how to build and how to buy.
