There’s a moment when you see this LEGO® Balloon Dog by brxstr, and your brain goes straight to Jeff Koons. That glossy, oversized sculpture. The one that sold for millions and made people ask whether art could still be fun. This LEGO® version brings that same playful irony to the table, only this time, it’s made entirely of bricks.

Pop art in plastic form
There’s a moment when you see this LEGO® Balloon Dog by brxstr, and your brain goes straight to Jeff Koons. That glossy, oversized sculpture. The one that sold for millions and made people ask whether art could still be fun. This LEGO® version brings that same playful irony to the table, only this time, it’s made entirely of bricks.

The resemblance is undeniable, though it’s unclear whether brxstr had Koons in mind when designing it. Either way, the outcome is fascinating. It’s minimal, sculptural, and instantly recognizable. The kind of piece that looks just as good in a living room as it does next to your other LEGO® display sets.
Building the illusion
The model isn’t just cute. It’s an engineering puzzle. To recreate those smooth, inflated curves, brxstr used a web of SNOT (Studs Not On Top) techniques hidden beneath the surface. The internal structure connects through ball joints, allowing each segment, legs, ears, and body, to flow naturally.

That precision gives it its magic. It feels round even though it’s built from angles. It feels light even though it’s dense. This will sit amazing in a desk or your coffee table next to Taschen architecture books.
A project with momentum
The design recently crossed the 10,000-vote mark on LEGO® Ideas, earning it a place in the official review phase. If it’s approved, we’ll likely hear more around May or June 2026. The creator notes that color consistency was the toughest challenge, as certain parts aren’t yet available in matching shades. That could change if LEGO® gives it the green light, allowing for a stronger and sleeker version.

Until then, fans are left to imagine a future where art and play merge again, a museum piece you can actually build yourself.
Between irony and imagination
Koons’ balloon dog has always been a paradox: a toy turned luxury icon. This LEGO® Balloon Dog flips the story back. It takes art once untouchable and rebuilds it with pieces anyone can snap together. Whether or not brxstr intended to echo the American artist, the resemblance feels like a perfect coincidence, art reflecting art, filtered through a Danish lens.
If the review goes well, we might soon get to see how LEGO® transforms this playful idea into an official set.
