The enchanting narrative of the 1993 blockbuster hit, Hocus Pocus, has been given a new lease of life. This time, it’s depicted through a charming reimagining of the Sanderson sisters’ cottage, now crafted in LEGO bricks.
Over three decades have passed since the launch of the original Hocus Pocus, a Kenny Ortega-directed classic. The film unfolds the tale of the Sanderson sisters, a trio of witches who make a comeback in contemporary Salem, Massachusetts, on Halloween night. Fast-forward to last year, and fans were treated to the eagerly awaited sequel, Hocus Pocus 2, further exploring the well-loved characters’ story. Now, fans have the opportunity to construct and showcase a tangible piece of Hocus Pocus lore.
Amber Veyt, a 26-year-old LEGO enthusiast and Hocus Pocus admirer from Belgium, designed this model. Her creative work caught the attention of 10,000 votes on the LEGO Ideas platform, and subsequently, it was selected for production as an authentic LEGO set. Boasting 2,316 pieces, this stirring set is packed with familiar props inspired by the film, translated into LEGO. It also features six mini figures – the renowned Sanderson Sisters, Max, Danni, Allison, and Thackery Binx in his feline form.
In the film, the Sanderson sisters reside in their secluded cottage, situated amidst the spooky and ambient woods of Salem. The dwelling exudes a sense of rustic charm, marked by a blend of Gothic and playful aesthetics.
The exterior of the cottage is characterized by a warped roofline, slanting chimneys, and sprawling vines, giving it an ancient, mysterious feel. It carries an unmistakable witch aura, exuding a worn and slightly intimidating atmosphere.
On the inside, the cottage is portrayed as a mystical, cluttered haven, filled with fascinating artefacts, potions, spell books, and magical trinkets. Its décor is a pot-pourri of unique furnishings and decorations that mirror the witches’ eccentric taste.
The cottage is central to the film, hosting crucial scenes including the witches’ gatherings, magical rituals, and showdowns with the main characters. Its mystical aura and unique visual appeal significantly contribute to the film’s overall allure and fascination.
The LEGO model of the cottage also offers the option to transform it into the Sanderson Witch Museum, as depicted in the films. By simply adding an information stand, museum signage, rope barriers, and a cash register (that can be sneakily stowed away under the stairs), fans can recreate this iconic location.
