The LEGO® Group has revealed eight new LEGO® Super Mario sets built around classic LEGO® minifigures, the biggest shake-up the theme has seen since it launched in 2020 with those interactive electronic figures. The change was teased back on MAR10 Day earlier this year, but only now do you get to see what it actually looks like on a baseplate.
All eight sets arrive on 1 January 2027, and the entry ticket is just €9.99 / $9.99 / £8.99 / AU$14.99 / CA$12.99.
The race starts with Mario's Pipe Jump (72052), 61 pieces recreating that image burned into your memory, Mario leaping out of a pipe. The lever knocks the Goomba out of the way so he can grab the coin.
Prefer to put the pedal down? Racing with Mario (72054) comes with a kart that has a built-in launcher, and it's up to you to dodge the cone and the banana.
The big karting showpiece is Bowser's Chaotic Race (72058), 409 pieces where Bowser drives the Brute-Bowser, Toad hops into a Dune Jumper, a Goomba tucks into a little roller and a cow (yes, a brick-built cow) climbs aboard the Tune Thumper. Each kart hides a racing function, whether it's a projectile launcher firing fireballs or flames shooting out the back.
There's room for younger builders too, and that's a first.
Luigi vs. Bowser Jr. (72056) is the first LEGO® Super Mario set for ages 4+, with shells, launchers and two karts for a race right past the cones.
Yoshi at Mario's House (72057) is the second 4+ set, with a garden, bedroom, kitchen and a green slide to zip between floors, because stairs are for people without a slide.
If you'd rather swap the track for sand, there's Mario's Beach Adventures (72055), with a drinks stand, sun lounger, parasol, a wave and a crab with strong opinions about your toes. And take note, because both Mario and Luigi get their fire version in this wave.
Fire flowers at Bowser's door
The highlight is Fire Mario at Bowser's Castle (72060), 850 pieces and a 17 x 36 x 26 cm (6.7 x 14.2 x 10.2 in) fortress where you help Peach escape. Bowser, a Koopa Troopa and a Goomba defend the castle with lava balls and hidden traps, and there's a treasure chest full of coins for anyone who checks every corner.
Fire Luigi vs. the Koopa Troopas (72061) rounds off the list with a cannon that fires the minifigure at the tower, a move that now officially counts as a building technique.
The LEGO® Group and Nintendo have been working together since 2020, and Design Manager Patrick Otley described this shift to the minifigure as the start of something special, driven by a desire to give kids more freedom to create their own stories.
The pipes are in place, the karts are loaded and the castle needs a hero. What will you build on 1 January?
