Somewhere in deepest, darkest Peru, a very polite bear just got the brick treatment. A builder known as Trevorbuilder has recreated Paddington as a LEGO® display model, complete with his trusty suitcase, the note tied around his neck, and (of course) a half-eaten marmalade sandwich. The project sits at 2,948 supporters on LEGO® Ideas, and it is charming enough to make you reach for a jar of preserves.

The estimated 400 to 450 piece model shows Paddington perched on his suitcase, which is one of the cleverest touches here. Two studs on the case let the bear sit snugly on top, yet lift him off and he can park himself anywhere you fancy on your shelf. That kind of flexible display thinking is exactly what makes a build sing.

Building clothing out of bricks is famously tricky (have you ever tried to make a duffle coat out of rectangles?), but Trevorbuilder leaned on a stack of blue slopes to capture the right coat shape and drape. The head sits on a ball joint for a bit of tilt and personality, and every detail nods to how the bear looks on the big screen. This whole thing came together from a physical brick collection, so those piece limits made the accomplishment even sweeter.

Trevorbuilder pitches Paddington Bear as a display model first, with room to become a proper play figure if a little extra posability were added down the line. It is a set that could win over Paddington fans of every age, which is a fair few of us.

Fancy helping this well-mannered bear reach the full 10,000 supporters he needs to head to the review stage? Pop over to LEGO® Ideas and back Paddington Bear. After all, a small bear can go a very long way, and this one comes with his own snack.
