LEGO® Old Flying Club & Hangar Takes Off with 10K Votes

Some builds don’t just stand on the ground, they take off. The Old Flying Club & Hangar, a detailed throwback to aviation’s golden age, has officially joined the LEGO® Ideas 10K Club. Now the idea is under official LEGO® review, the project could soon become a real, boxed set on shelves worldwide. The decision is expected between May and June 2025, so all eyes are on the runway.

Hangar Dreams and High Hopes

ABStract_brick2 had something even bigger in mind. Inspired by their real-life flying club and 1930s Art Deco airfields, this creation celebrates both the spirit of flight.

Inside the hangar, clever design meets storytelling. A removable roof reveals a fully detailed workshop, complete with a mechanic’s bench, a spare engine, and even a mezzanine desk where minifigure pilots can chart their next daring route. And, of course, the set includes a sleek aerobatic airplane, ready for takeoff.

Details That Make Builders Soar

The Old Flying Club is a tribute to craftsmanship. Over 2,000 pieces capture a small hangar, ideal for integration into a LEGO® City. The set also includes five minifigures, two pilots, one mechanic, and two curious visitors.

Even the hangar doors use a smooth gear mechanism for that satisfying tactile click, making the build as fun to use as it is to assemble. Builders will find both familiar techniques and clever new connections that reward patience and creativity.

Why This Build Matters

LEGO® has rarely explored aviation’s quieter side, those community hangars where friendships form over propellers and coffee. The only previous set close to this theme was 60103 Airport Air Show, and that was years ago. This project brings something new: a nostalgic, detail-rich build for adults.

It’s easy to imagine this hangar sitting on the edge of a bustling LEGO® City, or as a display centerpiece for anyone who loves airplanes.

A Runway to Reality

With 10,000 fans already on board, the Old Flying Club & Hangar has proven that builders crave more than just skyscrapers and starships. The next step rests with LEGO’s review team, who will determine if this fan creation earns its official wings in mid-2025.

Until then, builders can only dream, and maybe build their own hangars in the meantime. After all, a mile of highway takes you a mile, but a mile of LEGO® runway can take you anywhere.
