Review: Mrs. Castillo's Turtle Van | LEGO® DREAMZzz (71456)

I love the set “Mrs. Castillo's Turtle Van” (71456)!

I've been waiting weeks for my pre-order on the Lego website. The LEGO® DREAMZzz themed sets are based on the television series “Dreamzzz Trials of the Dream Chasers”, with episodes 1-10 in May 2023 and 11-20 in August 2023 being released. Then once to get lost in the details of "dream-building" [dreamcraft].

As with many other Lego fans, I fell in love with Turtuga’s Van and Mrs. Castillo at first sight, so I wasted no time ordering the set!

I assembled the two versions available in the instructions (land and water) and made minor changes, using extra transparent parts (e.g. bar 12 L #42445 and support #1749) and removing others.

I didn't use all the stickers, because I like it better that way, and not so much to use the pieces more freely in the future.

Stickers, scissors and a

I missed more details inside the Van, for example, two chairs, a fridge and a stove. Nothing a Lego fan can't solve with extra pieces available in their collection.

New Minifigures and New Parts

Set 71456 includes Mateo and Z-Blob minifigures, Izzie (Matheo's sister), Mrs. Castillo, Zoey and Grimspawn. The prints on the torsos and legs are very detailed and of excellent quality!

The sets of this new Lego theme include many new pieces, or at least with new colors. I highlight in the photograph some of the ones I liked the most for their aesthetics, originality or potential function in original constructions. The Dream Chasers icon is an hourglass and appears on two tile pieces in front of the van and fitted into the hourglass.

Mateo's hair piece (#2003) is relatively new (it already existed in black), having a print over brown. His head has a different eye and a white spot on his face, indicative of vitiligo, a localized depigmentation of the skin (with this character, Lego is once again highlighting issues of diversity and inclusion). Zoey's dark purple hair and Mrs. Castilho's, Z-Blob and Grimspawn's torsos are new molds, as is the trans-green Z-Blob head piece.

I highlight the new brown Slope piece used on Mrs. Castillo's backpack, the bow in a new color (dark purple) and the green pieces that represent plants. Speaking of blueprints, imagine what blueprints they could build with various pieces of Z-Blob's green torso!

If you haven't seen the television series “Dreamzzz Trials of the Dream Chasers”, the episodes are available on Netflix and, for free, on the Lego Youtube channel (in several languages besides English)
