His LEGO® Ideas Amsterdam Canal Houses project does exactly that, and it just reached the coveted 10,000 votes on LEGO® Ideas. Now, it’s in official review, meaning LEGO® designers are deciding whether it will hit shelves in 2026.
This is not some tiny display piece. It’s a 2600-piece modular-style tribute to the Dutch capital, packed with local flavor: cafés, bicycles, brickwork, and more character than your average city block.
Five Houses, Countless Stories
The layout is pure postcard Amsterdam. On the left, a red brick café greets locals with a smile from behind a wooden counter. Next, a tall black townhouse hides an artist’s studio. There’s even a painter minifigure mid-brushstroke.
Moving right, a red-brick apartment building offers views of the canal, while a brown corner house anchors the street with a bike shop on its ground floor. Naturally, the bicycles are for rent. Each building is fully furnished, open-backed for play, and designed to capture daily Dutch life.
The lineup of eight minifigures feels like a slice of the city itself: a smiling hipster, a bartender, a bookish elder, a couple living on their boat, a trendy guy in a pink cap, and the ever-busy bike mechanic.
Why It Feels Different
European architecture has always fascinated LEGO® builders. Sets like 10297 Boutique Hotel and 10278 Police Station echo that modular city vibe, but this one feels personal. It’s less “city planning” and more “street nostalgia.” The colors are subdued, the textures organic, the mood quietly local.
