Ever wondered what the lost Library of Alexandria looked like before the Romans came along and, well, did as the Romans do? Builder Maximus Brickimus has an answer, and it just crossed the finish line. The Ancient Library reached the full 10,000 supporters on LEGO® Ideas and now sits in the official review pile, waiting to learn its fate.

This model spreads across three baseplates and climbs two full floors, so there is a lot to explore here. The grand façade mixes column styles borrowed from Greece, Egypt, and ancient Mesopotamia, which is a bold blend that somehow all works together. Removable sections let you peer inside without wrecking the whole thing, so it plays as nicely as it displays. Have you ever tried to open up a build and keep the roof intact? It is trickier than it sounds, and the design pulls it off.

Step through the doors and the interior earns its keep. One side holds a towering two-story statue, while the other shows off a grand staircase with twin spirals that sweep up to balconies packed with scroll shelves. That twin-spiral staircase is the sort of technique that makes fellow builders lean in for a closer look (go on, admit it).

Eight minifigures fill the scene with stories. You get a wealthy merchant delivering scrolls, his loyal porter, the meticulous head librarian and her watchful guard, a busy scribe, a travelling scholar, a humble cleaner sweeping the legendary halls, and a visionary scientist complete with a working orrery, a nod to Eratosthenes and his clever measurement of Earth's size. With 294 comments and 10,000 supporters already behind it, the Ancient Library now rests in the hands of the LEGO® review team. Will LEGO® help us rebuild what the world lost, or will this dream gather dust like the scrolls it celebrates?
