CATAN Snaps Into Bricks - A Playable LEGO® Board That Doubles as Wall Art

Ever wished your favourite board game could hang on a wall between game nights? Builder Paul, better known as Honey.Brickz, has done exactly that. His CATAN - The Game & 3D Wall Art project is a fully playable brick-built tribute to the legendary settlers-and-sheep board game, and it has already sailed to the full 10,000 supporters on LEGO® Ideas. That means it now sits in the review phase, waiting for the official verdict.

Here is where things get clever. Every mechanic from the original CATAN works, and Paul tested the whole thing in real life (his son now refuses to play any other version, which is possibly the toughest quality control on Earth). When the game ends, you do not tear it down. You lift it onto a wall, and the board becomes a 3D display piece. No disassembly, no lost roads, no arguments over who left the robber on the floor.

Under 5,000 pieces went into this build, and yet it stays sturdy enough to carry one-handed. Fancy taking it to a friend's place? It comes apart into modular sections that pack into a box, just like the cardboard original. Have you ever seen a board game hex you could rebuild tile by tile?

Paul packed in easter eggs and little side stories too, so players have something to hunt for while waiting their turn. He even swapped negative studs for inverted tiles after community feedback, which sharpened both the looks and the play. The design is ready for expansions as well, so Cities & Knights, Seafarers, and the 5 to 6 player variant all fit right in.

The only non-brick element is the trading cards, which stay as originals for smoother gameplay. That is a smart call from a builder who clearly sweated every detail (and lost a few nights of sleep doing it).
