Draw faster than your shadow, because a new LEGO® Ideas project brings the comic-strip Wild West to life. Lucky Luke and Billy the Kid recreates one of the most beloved showdowns in comics: the lone cowboy created by Morris, coolly foiling a bank robbery. Designer Niouls has packed roughly 1,500 pieces into a scene bursting with saloon-brawl energy.

The build lands the two characters perfectly. Lucky Luke lounges with his legs crossed and eyes shut, the very picture of a man who has already won. Billy the Kid, meanwhile, gets caught red-handed, hat flying off his head, frozen in wide-eyed surprise. Ever tried to make a plastic minifigure look genuinely shocked? Niouls nailed it through pure posture.

Here is where the building really shines. To capture that round, bouncy comic-book look, Niouls used curved parts braced with axle elements hidden inside the arms and legs. Even better, structure doubles as storytelling. Lucky Luke leans on a wrought-iron fence bolted to the base, so his relaxed pose keeps the whole model steady, while Billy the Kid clings to the bank vault on a transparent rod (he is guarding that loot with his life). The vault opens and closes too, which is a delightful touch.

The bank vault gives the scene its visual anchor, tying the two figures together into one balanced tableau. It is a clever bit of building that proves display models can carry a punchline as sharp as any panel Morris ever drew.

Right now Lucky Luke and Billy the Kid has gathered 420 supporters on its climb toward the 10,000 needed for the official review stage. If a faster-than-lightning cowboy and one very unlucky outlaw belong on your shelf, why not ride over and add your vote?
