Ever wanted to hold seven centuries of Florentine history in your hands? A new Ponte Vecchio: The Living Bridge of Florence project on LEGO® Ideas aims to bring one of Italy's most beloved landmarks into brick form, and it packs a whopping 4,234 pieces into a display piece that stretches 71 cm wide. Designed by hugojobe, this tribute to the medieval bridge spanning the Arno River has already gathered 1,329 supporters.

Here is the truly clever part. The model represents half of the Ponte Vecchio, and that is on purpose (a decision that pays off beautifully). Splitting it down the middle means both faces earn their moment in the spotlight. The outer façade shows off those famous overhanging shops, while the inner side reveals jewelry shop windows and cobbled street detail. Which side would you point toward the room?

The build recreates the Corridoio Vasariano, the elevated private passage that Giorgio Vasari designed in 1565 so the Medici family could stroll between palaces without mingling with the crowds. You will spot its long row of tiny windows overlooking the river, terracotta roof tiles running the full length, transparent water tiles with real depth, and even a traditional Florentine boat, the Barchetto, tucked beneath the arches.

Look closely and you will find four hidden easter eggs, because a great Florentine artwork always rewards curious eyes. A rat scurries across a rooftop. A piece of meat nods to the butchers who once traded here before the Medici expelled them. A painting honours the Medici art collection, and darker tiles at the base of the pillars quietly mark the devastating flood of November 1966.

Hugojobe dreamed up this MOC after a 2019 trip to Florence, calling it a love letter to the city built brick by brick. With its layered silhouette and photogenic double façade, it would fit right in beside the LEGO® Architecture and LEGO® Icons lines.
