LEGO® Smurf Village Officially Becomes a Reality! A Blue-Tiful Tribute to Nostalgia and Belgian Comics Magic

LEGO® Smurf Village Officially Becomes a Reality! A Blue-Tiful Tribute to Nostalgia and Belgian Comics Magic

The Smurf Village LEGO® Ideas project by The Half Blood Baron has officially hit the magical 10,000 votes and been approved to become a real LEGO® set next year! Submitted on October 15, 2023, this project has now crossed the last milestone and will bring a splash of blue joy to fans of the Belgium characters everywhere.

A Smurfy Beginning

Before they were a culture phenomenon, the Smurfs (Les Schtroumpfs) began life in 1958 as comic characters created by Belgian artist Peyo (Pierre Culliford). Their first appearance was in an original story about Johan and Peewit, but people just loved the tiny blue forest-dwellers so much, that they soon got their own album.

What followed was a worldwide wave of Smurfmania: comics, TV cartoons, toys, and even full-length movies. The Smurfs are goofy characters with a usual single exaggerated trait; like Grouchy’s pessimism or Brainy’s know-it-all. And now, they’re becoming members to the world of LEGO® bricks.

Building the Magic of the Village

The Half Blood Baron’s LEGO® Smurf Village is an imaginative letter to childhood Saturday mornings and European bande dessinée history. Made with 2,700 bricks, this set includes the best bits of the Smurfs’ hidden woodland home:

A stone bridge, a riverbank with a rowboat, and even the village well, tiny scenic touches that make the diorama feel alive.

Of course, what’s a Smurf Village without its residents? The set includes 15 minifigures: Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Brainy, Clumsy, Handy, Jokey, Sleepy, Grouchy, Harmony, Hefty, Chef, Vanity, Farmer, Baby Smurf, and the ever-grumpy Gargamel, complete with his cat Azrael.

Why It Feels So Smurfing Good

The Half Blood Baron wanted to bottle that same sense of wonder from childhood, the feeling of seeing Gargamel’s shadow on a tree or watching Papa Smurf solve a problem with calm wisdom.

This model also celebrates the European comic tradition that gave rise to so many beloved worlds, from Tintin to Astérix and now The Smurfs. It’s a reminder that the European comics are gaining track when we already have a Tintin project in production and Astérix in its third time being reviewed by LEGO®.

The Next Chapter in a Smurfy Saga

Now that the Smurf Village has officially joined the LEGO® lineup, fans can look forward to seeing it on shelves in the coming year. We will be following the project and see if LEGO® doesn't smurf the original project, because this one looks smurftastic
