Five years. That is how long builder T-Xia1119 spent perfecting a LEGO® tribute to the most famous mobile suit in anime history: the Gundam RX-78-2. The result now lives on LEGO® Ideas, and it carries a party trick that most brick-built mecha have never pulled off.

Here is the clever bit. Tucked inside this RX-78-2 sits a fully transforming Core Fighter, the little jet that famously docks into the Gundam's torso in the original series. It folds, it converts, and it holds a minifigure pilot in the cockpit. Try to imagine the geometry problem that presents. The designer, a self-described 45-year-old big kid who loves both LEGO® bricks and Gundam, first caught the idea back in 2019 after spotting a Core Fighter MOC online. Plenty of talented builders had made LEGO® Gundam models before, but none had managed to marry the Core Fighter, the pilot, and the main body into one seamless system. So T-Xia1119 spent half a decade tweaking, refining, and rebuilding until every piece clicked into place.

Right now the Gundam RX-78-2 has gathered 1,607 supporters, with the goal set at the usual 10,000 needed to reach the review stage. The comments section is already buzzing with 44 fans sharing feedback (the designer actively welcomes suggestions, which is a lovely bit of building-community spirit).
