A New Era for Polar Land: Say Hello to Arctic Basecamp

After more than a decade of hosting penguins, LEGOLAND® Billund bid farewell to its feathered friends in late 2022, relocating them to Kattegatcentret and Pairi Daiza in Belgium. Now, the park is reimagining the space with Arctic Basecamp, a brand-new digital building adventure that transports guests to the Arctic, no parka required.
Build, Explore, and Discover

Arctic Basecamp isn’t just another attraction; it’s a fully immersive experience that combines LEGO® building with interactive storytelling. According to Kasper Tangsig, LEGOLAND’s press chief, the goal was to create something educational, engaging, and unlike anything else in the park.
Here’s how it works:
- Choose Your Expedition: Guests pick from three polar missions: land, sea, or air.
- Build Your Vehicle: At an interactive building station, you construct a LEGO® vehicle tailored to your mission.
- Embark on an Adventure: Once your build is complete, the real fun begins in the digital ice cave.
Step Into the Ice Cave

The centerpiece of Arctic Basecamp is its digital ice cave, where yetis lurk, mammoths roam, and orcas swim beneath frozen lakes. The cave is packed with interactive surprises:
- Walk on frozen lakes and watch orcas glide beneath the ice.
- Place your hand on the wall to summon a life-sized LEGO® mammoth.
- Explore hidden exhibits that react to your movements, making you feel like a true Arctic explorer.
"In the ice cave, guests will experience some of LEGOLAND’s most advanced digital effects yet," says Tangsig. "It’s not just about building—it’s about stepping into another world."
Why Arctic Basecamp Stands Out

1. A Fresh Take on LEGO® Play
This isn’t just about stacking bricks. It’s about solving challenges, learning about prehistoric Arctic life, and seeing your creations come to life in a digital landscape.
2. Education Meets Entertainment
Kids (and adults!) won’t just play, they’ll learn about Arctic ecosystems, extinct species, and the spirit of exploration.
3. A Seamless Blend of Physical and Digital
The attraction bridges the gap between hands-on building and digital magic, making it uniquely LEGOLAND.

Where to Find It
Arctic Basecamp is now open in Polar Land, right next to the Polar X-plorer ride, where the pinguin pool once stood. It’s proof that even in a world without penguins, LEGOLAND® can still deliver chills, thrills, and plenty of LEGO® fun.
