A monster with terrible tusks, terrible teeth, and a poisonous wart on the end of his nose has stomped his way onto LEGO® Ideas. Builder dcsbricksnbits has recreated The Gruffalo & the Mouse in brick form, and the result captures every quirk from Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler's beloved bedtime story. Twenty-five years after the book first hit shelves, that clever little mouse is finally sizing up his imaginary friend in plastic.

The model runs to roughly 2,100 pieces and measures 27 cm wide, 27 cm deep, and 28 cm high (a properly chunky presence at around 1,800 grams). Every signature trait from the story makes the cut, from the orange eyes to the purple prickles running all down his back. The famous refrain from the book even appears printed on the base, a lovely nod to the pages that inspired it.

Here is where the building gets brilliant. The Gruffalo's head rotates so you can admire him from any angle, and the mouse himself is repositionable, so you can pose the cheeky rodent wherever you fancy. The whole thing doubles as a working bookend, sturdy enough to prop up a medium stack of your favourite reads. How often does a display piece pull its weight around the house like that?

What really stands out is the approach dcsbricksnbits took with the pitch. Rather than leaning on digital renders, the submission uses real-world photography of the physical build, proving every element already exists in the current LEGO® catalogue. That means what you see is genuinely buildable today, no fantasy parts required.

The Gruffalo & the Mouse currently sits at 1,788 supporters on its climb toward the 10,000 needed to reach the review stage. If a brick-built creature on your reading shelf sounds like your kind of bedtime magic, why not lend your vote and help this deep dark wood come to life? There's no such thing as a Gruffalo, they say, but there could soon be one made entirely of bricks.
